While many people use the terms interchangeably, hemp oil and CBD oil are two products with different applications, benefits, and chemical makeup. Understanding their differences is important in choosing which is right for you.
Hemp Oil:
Hemp oil — aka hemp seed oil — comes from the seeds of the hemp plant. Hemp oil contains very little to no cannabinoids, including CBD or THC, because neither of these compounds is stored in the seed of the hemp plant. Hemp oil also contains a rich amount of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, antioxidants, and vitamins. Uses for this product include skin care, cooking, and as a dietary supplement that helps with heart health and anti-inflammation. Hemp oil is most often legal and not psychoactive.
CBD Oil:
CBD oil is extracted from the flowers, leaves, and stalks of the hemp plant, which contains a high concentration of the compound CBD. In contrast to hemp seed oil, it contains higher concentrations of CBD, a non-psychoactive agent found to have a host of medicinal benefits, including helping reduce anxiety, improving sleep, and alleviating chronic pain.
In other words, hemp oil is nutrient-heavy and non-cannabinoid-based, while CBD oil is cannabinoid-in-focus and prized for its health benefits. When purchasing, always select products that have undergone third-party testing for quality and transparency.
