What is CBN?

    faq

CBN is one of the lesser-known cannabinoids that can be found in cannabis plants. Unlike THC (which has psychoactive properties) CBN is psychoactive to a much weaker degree. It is hence more subdued and thus attractive to those who would enjoy being relaxed without feeling an intense high.

As an oxidated by-product of THC, CBN is not directly produced by the plant but is formed when THC degrades over time, either through exposition to heat, air, or light. This natural transformation means that aged cannabis often possesses higher levels of CBN.

The standout features of CBN, however, are its potential to be used as a sleep aid. CBN is largely used for its sedative property, which may be more effective when used in combination with other cannabinoids like CBD (cannabidiol) or even terpenes like myrcene. Some anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and appetite-stimulant properties were also noted in some CBN studies, but there needs to be more research to confirm that.

Most commonly, CBN is found in tinctures, capsules, and/or infused edibles. For many, it’s a gentle introduction into the entourage effect, where cannabinoids and terpenes work together for enhanced benefits.

Start low and go slow with dosing. Effects will vary person to person and will vary depending on whether it is taken alone or in concert with other cannabinoids.
