Due to the various state laws regarding it, shipping CBD and THC products can be a bit tricky for some parts of the country. Here’s what you need to know before placing an order.
In the United States, CBD products that are hemp-derived with less than 0.3% THC are federally legal under the 2018 Farm Bill. However, state laws vary. Some states, like Idaho, require CBD products to contain no detectable THC, while others are more permissive. Always check your state’s regulations before ordering.
With regard to products that contain THC, the situation becomes a bit more complicated. THC is federally illegal in the United States, even though many states have allowed it for medical or recreational use. Shipping THC products across state lines can be problematic in some instances (see illegal, federally), but we haven’t had any problems to date (Vermont).
Internationally, the situation is even more varied: many countries, such as Canada, permit the shipment of THC and CBD products within their borders under strict guidelines. Others, such as the UK, permit only CBD products containing minimal amounts of THC. Still others, such as Japan and Saudi Arabia, prohibit any amount of THC and tightly control CBD.
To avoid legal issues, research your local laws and the policies of the company you’re ordering from. Find reputable sellers that clearly outline their shipping capabilities and adherence to legal standards.
In short, it depends on where you reside and what type of product you want. Always be cautious and always well-informed to avoid any hassle.
